Obbink Farms, Inc.Obbink Farms, Inc. is the site of the current farm, albeit greatly expanded. Brothers Dave and Cliff Obbink are multi-generational dairy producers. Prior to the merger they were milking about 250 – 300 cows. Cliff Obbink is currently the transportation and crop manager, while Dave is responsible for feeding the cows and the feed ration mix. Cliff’s son Mike is the maintenance and grounds manager. The Rice FamilyThe Rice family (Dan, Brenda and their four children) moved to Nebraska from Hersey, PA in 2000 to work with the Obbinks to create Prairieland Dairy, LLC. The Rice's brought a tremendous amount of know-how and about 300 cows. Dan Rice is currently general manager of the farm, and his father, Dave, is in charge of maintenance. Wil-Mar-Sen DairyWil-Mar-Sen Dairy is a second-generation farm southeast of Beatrice, NE. It is owned by William Goossen (retired) and his two sons, Mike and Andy. They brought about 300 cows to the partnership in 2005. They continue to raise corn and soybeans and are now using their former dairy facilities to raise replacement heifers for Prairieland Dairy. Eickhoff Rolling Hills Farm
This is a short history from Alfred and Harvey Eickhoff; the fourth generation on the Eickhoff farm. Our great-grandfather purchased the farm in 1904. After 107 years, the farm has seen many changes such as an increase in size, use of modern technology, becoming very environmental friendly, etc. Most of these changes have taken place in the last 40 years. Some examples are: our father and mother started milking by hand 5 cows, producing 10 gal of milk a day. What was amazing was the milk was kept cool in the summer by setting the cans in the cool water stock tank. In the winter the can was buried in a pile of hay to keep the milk from freezing. Some times only the cream was sold and the milk was fed to the pigs. Other changes include our grandparents were lucky to have an 8th grade education and currently everyone on the farm has a college degree. One thing that has not changed is the number of working hours that are put into the business—long days for 6 ½ days with time off for church. We are pleased that part of the 5th generation of Eickhoff’s has started the legacy of carrying on our work. We feel this is a very good life and we look forward to the future of our farm and the future of our great nation Al & Rowena Eickhoff Harvey & Sandra Eickhoff |
