Animal Care
Our cows at Prairieland Dairy receive industry leading levels of quality care, because we know that only happy and healthy cows can deliver the quality milk our customers expect. New Technologies, combined with around the clock veterinary care, enable us to provide the safest possible environment for cows, while ensuring any sick animals are treated immediately.
To provide that level of care, each cow wears a computer bracelet which transmits a steady stream of information about that particular cow’s health. Information regarding the number of steps the cow has taken that day, how much milk she has produced, and the quality of that milk is fed continuously to our data network where it can be analyzed every eight hours for abnormalities or signs of distress. Additionally, we have installed automatic sort gates in the milking parlor which can access the bracelet’s information and separate out any animals that may require special care.
In the event that something does go wrong with one of our animals, the hospital barn and veterinarian office are only a few steps away from the milking parlor. Once there, the cow is quickly checked by our veterinary staff and the safest course of medical attention, if needed, is devised.
At Prairieland Dairy, it is our top priority to continually invest in the welfare of our animals while providing innovative, sustainable ways to care for them. If you would like to know more about how we care for our animals, schedule a tour with us at Prairieland Dairy in Firth Nebraska.
